ALEX BALGA

Alex Balga

Alex Balga studied acting, singing and dancing at the Vienna Conservatory, Tanz-Gesang-Studio-Theater an der Wien and the Performing Arts Studios in Vienna, Austria.

After graduation he performed in Austrian/German productions of "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Blondel", "Grease" and "Les Miserables".

As a College student he directed a production of "The Rocky Horror Show". His first professional directing job was "Godspell" at the Capitol Theater Düsseldorf, Germany, followed by a highly successful production of "Cabaret" starring Anna Montanaro. After two years it moved to the prestigious Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Germany.

Alex created, co-wrote and directed the world premiere of the musical "Miami Nights", which ran at the Capitol Theater Düsseldorf for two years and then moved to the Etablissment Ronacher in Vienna.

His version of "Saturday Night Fever" (awards: "tz-Rose" and " The Star Of The Year" by the Munich AZ newspaper) was toured to Munich, Basel,  Düsseldorf and Frankfurt followed by another German/Austrian tour.

He also directed "Fame" for the "Musiktheater Saar" in Germany.

Alex Balga is the Artistic Director of  Mehr Entertainment GmbH under the General Manager Maik Klokow. The company operates the Capitol  Theater in Düsseldorf, The Musical Dome in Cologne and the Starlight Theater in Bochum. In this position he is in charge of developing new shows. He is also in charge of casting and the artistic quality of all productions of the company.

Other shows he cast and was artistically in charge of: Original German Production of Monty Pythons „Spamalot“,  and cast of the original German production of „Spring Awakening“ and a  new tour of „ Cats“ which started in Hamburg.

Concert: „Frank Wildhorn and Friends" at the Vienna Raimund Theater, starring Frank Wildhorn, Linda Eder, Thomas Borchert and Pia Douwes.

At  Capitol Theater in Düsseldorf he directed and co-wrote smaller productions and dinner shows i.e. "Tonight", „Last Christmas“ and “That’s Life”. He directed "Hair" in Bozen Italy.

His latest project is the world premiere of Hape Kerkeling's "Kein Pardon", a musicalisation of the hit-movie at the Capitol Theater in Düsseldorf for Mehr-Entertainment.
