Emmy Award nominated lyricist Amy Powers' first published songs
"As if We Never Said Goodbye" and "With One Look" achieved international
renown in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Boulvevard".
Her next show "Lizzie Borden" was co-written with Christopher McGovern. It
premiered at the American Stage Company. A second production had a sold-out
run at the Goodspeed Opera in 2001. A highly acclaimed cast album is available.
"The Game", a musical version of "Les Liasions Dangereuses" co-written with
composer Megan Cavallari and co-lyricist/librettist David Topchik, won raves
from audiences and critics alike at tis world premiere at Barrington Stage
Co. in 2003. Directed by Julie Boyd, it starred Tony Award winner Sara Ramirez.
"Zhivago", featuring music by Lucy Simon, book Michael Weller, lyrics by Powers
and co-lyricist Michael Korie, directed by Des McAnuff, had a sold out debut run
at The La Jolla Playhouse in 2006.
Amy's first film song was the title track to the Academy Award
winning movie "When We Were Kings", which chronicled the history
"Rumble in the Jungle" between Muhammed Ali and George Foreman.
She was nominated for the Emmy Award 2007 for lyrics of the song
"Shine" in "Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses.
Her work since been recorded by such renowned and diverse artists as Barbra
Streisand, Alabama, Patti Lupone, Brian Mc Knight, Avalon, Diamond Rio, Tina
Arena, Skye Sweetnam, Diana King, Ty Herndon, David Broza, Sara Paxton, Gary
Barlow, Marie Frank, Brie Larson and Plus One, among many others.
In addition to songs for pop, country, theatre and film, Amy writes extensively
for family entertainment for companies such as Disney, The Jim Henson Company
and Mattel.
A Harvard Law and Columbia Business School graduate, Amy practiced law at White
and Case in New York before beginning her writing career. She currently resides
in Los Angeles. |
