Julian Looman

Julian was born in 1985 in Vienna to a Dutch father and an Austrian mother.

His professional career began in 2009 after graduating from the Vienna Conservatory where he studied acting and singing.  While there, he participated in a master class lead by Herman van Veen.

For his creative portrayal on the topic of „addiction“, in a stage performance, he was awarded the Viennese Fidelio Award in 2010.

In addition to his mother-tongue, German, he also speaks Dutch, English, Italian, and French. Due to his multi-lingual background, he regularly performs on stage and screen in Austria, Germany and Switzerland as well as in the Netherlands.

A highlight of his early career was the lead role of Erik Hazelhoff, in the hit musical SOLDAAT VAN ORANJE.  With its more than 1,500 shows it became the most successful theatre production in Dutch history.

Julian has also received attention for his appearance as Raoul in the original German-speaking cast of Andrew Lloyd Webbers‘ LOVE NEVER DIES (in concert) at the Ronacher theatre in Vienna.

For his performance as the Master of Ceremonies in CABARET, he was awarded the „Kurt-Sieder-Award“ from the City of Aachen for outstanding achievement as an actor.

In 2015 he lnded his first lead role in the movie PREY by Dick Maas, which had its cinema release in autumn 2016. In 2016 he also premiered in Salzburg as Sir Dennis Gallahad in SPAMALOT.  Afterwards he could be seen as Baron Felix von Gaigern in GRAND HOTEL in Baden/Vienna. In 2018 he played the role of  Karl Stefan Liebenberg in the operetta GRÄFIN MARIZA in Mörbisch, Austria while filming the TV series Pagan Peak (Der Pass) for Sky. At the moment he can be seen as Max Winter in the BBC TV series THE MALLORCA FILES while filming the second season.

Versatility and creativity are two of his strongest skills. He is also writing his original music and lyrics.

Besides his love for theatre and drama, he has a great passion for travel and photography.

Julian is based in Vienna and Amsterdam.
