Thomas Borchert is one of Europe’s leading names in musical theatre: he sings, he acts, writes songs and creates his own shows. He starred in the european premiere of NEXT TO NORMAL (Dan), recreated the role of Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLES, which he has played 15 years earlier for the first time. He was Naroch in the world premiere of MOSES and Maxim de Winter in both the German and Swiss premiere of REBECCA. The years before he starred in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, several productions of DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES and even made it to London to play Gaston opposite Topol in GIGI. He played Fred/Petruchio in the classic comedy musical KISS ME KATE and Merlin in the world premiere production of Frank Wildhorn’s ARTUS – EXCALIBUR in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Thomas is Frank Wildhorn’s favorite male singer in Europe. The part of Edmond Dantès in COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO was written for him. Before that he was DRACULA and the lead in JEKYLL and HYDE, both written by Frank Wildhorn. Born in Essen, Thomas moved with his family to Hamburg, where he studied Musical Theatre at the Stage School of Music, Dance and Drama. During his education he landed his first professional role, starring as Rum Tum Tugger in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical CATS. This catapulted Thomas into a career as a leading man in musical theatre, with credits including the European premiere of BUDDY – The Buddy Holly Story as Buddy in Hamburg, Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLES, Che in EVITA, and Frank N. Furter in THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, Lucheni and Death in the acclaimed production of ELISABETH in Vienna, Leopold Mozart, (whom he also played at the revival in Vienna and in Tecklenburg) and archbishop Colloredo in the world premiere of MOZART! , in JEKYLL & HYDE as Jekyll/ Hyde (for which Thomas received an award as best male actor in a musical in 2002), the Phantom in the 20th Anniversary production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in his home town Essen, Count Krolock in Roman Polanski’s DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES in Hamburg, Berlin, St. Petersburg, Stuttgart and Vienna and Count Dracula in Frank Wildhorn’s DRACULA in St. Gallen, Switzerland and subsequently in Graz, Austria and Ulm and Munich in Germany. In 2016 he portrayed Juan Peron in EVITA in Vienna, followed by Count Krolock in DANCE OF THE VAMIRES in Vienna and St. Petersburg in Russia. He created the role of Stacee Jaxx in the German premiere of ROCK OF AGES in Ulm and Alfred Ill in THE VISIT (Der Besuch der Alten Dame) in Tecklenburg. His theatre work includes Oberon & Theseus in Shakespeare’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM and Hammet in BACKSTAGE in Austria, NOVECENTO – The Legend Of The Ocean Pianist (one man play) and Anthony in END OF THE RAINBOW in Hamburg.
